Seventh Son Review

Seventh Son had the potential to be great, but falls short with cheesy lack luster story. The plot is When Mother Malkin, the queen of evil witches, escapes the pit she was imprisoned in by professional monster hunter Spook decades ago and kills his apprentice, he recruits young Tom, the seventh son of the seventh son, to help him.  One of the most disappointing thing is how the Witches aren't as powerful as they are made out to be. One of the Witches has a army of highly trained assassin's which just turn out to be useless grunts as our protagonists mow through them, and our main protagonist is not even trained! This leads to a great concept that's completely ruined by poor execution and writing.

  Now when we come to the story, it's extremely generic, basically a farm boy is destined to be a hero blah blah seen it a trillion times. This is just supposed to be a CGI effect junkey money grab, and they don't even do that right. I was not impressed by most of the effects especially from the Witches, and we don't get to see a lot of cool monsters from the world they live in. We see one ancient beast that was seen in the trailer and it was the only cool scene in the movie and I wanted more of it, but instead I got less of that and more boring and original content. Oh and there is a uninspired romance that you see coming from a mile away, thought I'd mention that little bit.

 This movie also has a horrible and very predictable ending to go along with the rest of this boring and uninspired film. I like the idea of "Jeff Bridges" character the Spook, who is a monster and witch hunter. This is cool, again not executed well, I wanted to see more hunting monsters tied into a story where a evil Witch is back with her "Powerful Witches" not her completely useless one's.

Overall it's a generic and boring film with effects that aren't even that impressive.
